Facebook Integration

Below explains how to setup a Facebook application to use with your MySportSort account.  Please note, Facebook applications can only be used on personal accounts.  These applications are only needed as a tool to allow your customers to use their Facebook logins and will not expose your personal information to them.

Step 1

Go to https://facebook.com and login with a personal Facebook account.  This CAN NOT be a business account.  The personal account is only needed to create the Facebook application for your business.

Step 2

Once you are logged in with your account, go to https://developers.facebook.com.  From the menu, Click on Apps.  If you are not registered as an App Developer, you will need to click on Register as a developer.  Otherwise, click on Add a new app.

Step 3

You will be prompted for a choice of app that you want to create.  Choose the website option.

Step 4

Close any popup windows that may occur.  When you are back on the main window, click on “Skip and create app id”

Step 5

Give your application a name. Usually you would name it with your business name as shown below. Agree to the terms and “Create App ID”

Step 6

Type in the word from the Image for verification. Click on Submit. This will create your Facebook application and bring you to the settings page.

Step 7

Your application will be created and you are brought to the main application page.  You will be presented with an AppID and App Secret on the top of the page. Copy both of these down. These are the two fields you will need to enter under the Business Information section of mysportsort. IMPORTANT: You must specify the correct website in order for facebook to work correctly. But before this is done, you must set the website URL of you app to http://www.mysportsort.com first in order to set it up within mysportsort. Where you enter the URL within your app is pictured below. Make sure you press SAVE

Step 8

Click on Settings from the left side menu.

Step 9

Click on the “Add Platform” button.

Step 10

When you are presented with the popup containing all the possible selections, choose “Website”

Step 11

In the App domain box, type in mysportsort.com.  Under contact email, put in your businesses main email address.  Underneath the website information, type in http://www.mysportsort.com for both the site url and mobile url.  Save your changes by clicking on the “Save Changes” button.

Step 12

Go to Status and Review from the left menu.  Move the slider to Yes as shown below.  You want to make the app live and available to the general public.  Confirm the change.

Step 13

Logout of your Facebook account.

Step 14

Open up a new browser window or tab and login to your mysportsort account.  Go to management > business information.

Step 15

Under the Facebook TAB, Place a check under the checkbox to enable Facebook and then enter in your AppID and App Secret that was retrieved from step 7.

Step 16

If you also have a facebook business account, you can link that up to your account at this time as well. To do this, click on the Get Facebook Session Key Button. You should be presented with a facebook login screen.

If you don’t get the login screen, please re-check the website URL for your facebook app and make sure it reads http://www.mysportsort.com. Login with your facebook Business account. You will be asked to verify you would like to join the app. Click “Okay”

When you have completed getting a session key, Save your business information.

Step 17

If your customers are viewing everything through your very own domain and website using our API library, you must go back to the settings for your facebook app, and change the website URL on App Domain to your customer facing website address. Please make sure that this matches exactly from your site. In our example, we would put in http://www.thesportsplace.com for demonstration purposes. For your purposes, you would place http://YOUROWNURL.com/. We have provided a screenshot of where you would change that information below.
