Setting up the receipt printer in Windows

Modified on Mon, 23 Jul 2018 at 03:24 PM

Before our java applet can properly connect to your receipt printer and cash drawer, you must first do a one time setup process on the computer.

Step 1

Open the control panel and click on Printers and Faxes (Windows XP).  If you are using windows 7, Click on Devices and Printers.  If you are using Windows 8, goto Advanced printer setup instead:

Step 2

Click on Add Printer

Step 3

If using Windows XP click on “Next” at the welcome screen.  Otherwise, skip to the next step.

Step 4

When asked, Click on “Local printer attached to this computer”.  If using windows XP, Uncheck “Automatically detect and install my plug and play computer”.  Click “Next”

Step 5

Choose the correct port for the receipt printer.

  • For COM Ports, use an existing port and chose your COM port (COM1, COM2, etc)
  • For Parallel Ports, use an existing LPT port (LPT1, LPT2, etc).
  • For USB Ports, use an existing USB Port.  This can be tricky as the USB port doesn’t always list as an available port.  If this occurs and you have a receipt printer that uses USB, please install the printer drivers that came with the printer first.  Once that is complete, you can follow these directions here to change the printer name and driver.

Step 6

The Printer Wizard will continue. When prompted for Manufacturer, click “Generic“. For printer, select “Generic/Text Only“. Click “Next”.

Step 7

If prompted, Click on “Keep existing driver”.  Click on “Next”

Step 8

Enter in a printer name.  You may put in anything you like but the software will automatically default to a printer named “myssprinter”  When asked to make this printer the default printer, choose “No”.

Step 9

If prompted, Select the “Do not share this printer” option and click “Next”.  When asked to print a test page, Click on “No” and click “Next”.  Once complete, Click “Finish”

Step 10

Make sure the register you set up this printer on has the receipt printer and cash drawer options enabled.  Please follow these directions on configuring your register

Step 11

Load your register from the machine with the following link: https://www.mysportsort.com/main/sales/

When prompted, Allow the signed java applet from JDPreneur to run and accept all security questions for the applet.  Once the applet is loaded, you should see a list of printers on the top right side of the POS Screen.  Verify the printer “myssprinter” is selected.  If you named your printer something else, you will have to manually select it from the list.
